Off Topic / Sendgrid ignores spam complaints - IPs to block
« on: April 30, 2020, 10:20:06 am »
Sendgrid is an e-mail spam service and will not act on spam complaints to their abuse contact. You may have luck doing a full block of the following networks on your edge firewall:

149.72.0.0/16
168.245.0.0/17

Will continue to update if they spam from additional sources.

Using the Cisco custom ESXi 6.7U2 image, it's missing certain security patches which we apparently already had on the 6.5U2 install and the host would no longer reconnect into the cluster. The error message provided indicated an EVC issue and that a processor feature was missing on the host or something along those lines. The actual solution was installing a few newer patches including cpu-microcode by uploading the vib to the host and installing via CLI. Host would reconnect to the vCenter after a reboot allowing you to proceed with additional patching (if needed).

Seems a new annoyance under Debian 10 is by default the /sbin and /usr/sbin paths are not part of the shell environment when you su to root. Workaround is to edit the /etc/login.defs and add "ALWAYS_SET_PATH yes" so the config should look something like this:

Code: [Select]
#
# *REQUIRED*  The default PATH settings, for superuser and normal users.
#
# (they are minimal, add the rest in the shell startup files)
ENV_SUPATH      PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin
ENV_PATH        PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/games:/usr/games
ALWAYS_SET_PATH yes

Here's an interesting problem... If you have a VM behind a Sophos UTM (or other firewall such as ASA) on a VMware ESXi 6.x host using be2net Emulex driver but you get an error 400 (bad request) when trying to browse external sites, the be2net driver itself might be somehow stripping the HTTP headers. We logged this invalid request:

xx.xx.xx.xx - - [31/Dec/2018:16:49:49 -0800] "\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00" 400 166 "-" "-"

This was the case with the following driver configuration:

driver: be2net
version: 10.2.254.0
firmware-version: 10.2.261.36

A solution was to revert back to the elxnet driver. We ran into issues on this driver in the past which led us to enabling be2net originally (ESXi 5.5 and IBM OEM image). So if you're running into this issue under ESXi 6.x with the IBM/Lenovo OEM image on an HS23 blade, do this:

esxcli system module set --enabled=false --module=be2net
esxcli system module set --enabled=true --module=elxnet

Reboot your host and re-test.

They also spam you out of this range too:

NetRange:       216.55.172.0 - 216.55.175.255
CIDR:           216.55.172.0/22

So nullroute 216.55.172.0/22 and 209.235.128.0/19

Also if you forward the spam they send you to their abuse system, it rejects it because it has "spam like characteristics"

  [email protected]
SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data:

His government puts private data out in a public website and then arrests someone for accessing it. This dumbass still thinks he's in the right and will probably never learn how the Internet works.

I ran into this error trying to run setenv on my SGI Indy to a MAC within the standard SGI pool 08:00:69:x:x:x as I suspected this is why my onboard ec0 network adapter was not visible in IRIX. Turns out the MAC shown was for a secondary network card in the system (ec2) and it was causing IRIX to throw an invalid MAC warning during boot.

I'm not sure if there's a way around this in order to keep the second NIC in the system, but I simply removed it which allowed ec0 to show up in IRIX again. No more invalid MAC warning during boot and I could throw an IP on ec0 and ping things.
