QTW 93 - Using Custom Color Tables (21-September-98)

Q I have an 8-bit movie with a 256-color custom color table. When I open the movie with the QuickTime 3 for Windows MoviePlayer under Windows 98/95/NT, it appears my custom color table is not being asserted properly. What's going on?

A Windows maintains a group of 20 reserved colors in the system palette. When QuickTime 3 for Windows asserts your custom color table, it does not attempt to overwrite these 20 reserved colors. Instead, use a 236-color color table for better results.
